EP 116 Storytelling Found Her and Aging Became an Adventure

What happens when you retire after 46 years in corporate America and discover an entirely new way to tell your story?

Brenda Johnson is living proof that some of life's most exciting chapters can begin when we least expect them. After retiring in 2023, Brenda found her way into storytelling, developed a one-woman show called Aging. Reimagined!, and created Older, Bolder & Better!, where she explores the possibilities of life after 65.

In our conversation, Brenda shares how storytelling found her, why curiosity and a willingness to learn can open unexpected doors, and how she transformed her retirement into a new adventure. We talk about the stories that connect generations, the importance of bringing Black history and lived experiences to life, and the remarkable legacy of her great-grandmother, who taught her to read.

Brenda also reminds us that thriving isn't just about what we do for ourselves. It's about staying engaged, finding purpose, and discovering the joy that comes from giving back. Her suggestion for anyone wondering where to begin? Start by volunteering.

I especially love Brenda's perspective that aging is an opportunity to reimagine what's possible. Our job titles don't define us, our stories still matter, and there's no expiration date on curiosity, creativity, or making a difference.

Looking for a few simple ways to age well? Here are two products I use and genuinely recommend:

🚶‍♀️ Favorite Walking Pad – I use it almost every day while watching my favorite shows. It's quiet, easy to store, and makes getting more steps simple and enjoyable.

🥤 Favorite Protein Powder – Getting enough protein becomes even more important as we age. This is my go-to because it's easy to digest, delivers 25g of protein per serving, and supports healthy muscles and bones.

Tune in for more conversations with people 65+ fueling passion, purpose, and pocketbook. Keep aging out loud and proud, and don’t be caged by your age!

Waving from Boston – cheers!
